Our
Sustainable Excellence process is for those organizations
who not only see the whole playing field, and all of theplayers, but also the
horizon beyond. The fourth and final barrier to sustainable growth occurs
when an organization expands as a whole but without recognizing it is also simply
a part. Dominance of the landscape does not necessarily mean continued existence
within it. Great organizations are known as such because of the strength
of their leadership, strategic initiative and underlying business fundamentals.
However, in a wider community of interconnections, being the biggest does not
equate to being the best. Sustainable organizations must take
the opportunities from the successes of the present and use them, not to perpetuate
the past, but to lead them into their new future. In continuously learning
and adapting to the community around them sustainable organizations become without
peer - as each connection they build sustains the whole. An organisation that
cannot see the benefits of these connections - can only find out about them by
their later impacts.
For
this reason, we partner with other organizations to lead research into organizational
learning and the emergent trends in the changes within societal consciousness,
looking at the ways to enhance innovation and learning in organizations so as
to expand, not conflict with, their existing thinking. This is because
sustainability is not simply what an organization
does at the end of the pipe or during the process, but is how it thinks when deciding
to do this, and how that is thought of by those it impacts. A common response
to societal change and stakeholder pressure is quick adaptation and reaction -
or sometimes resistance and rejection. This is because the tangible physical structures
for sustainability can be changed quickly (although often expensively) - but intangible
values based structures only change slowly (although these can be encouraged inexpensively).
To change only when there is sufficient pressure - is an unfortunate choice. The
new mantra becomes: "Change is mandatory, growth is optional - choose wisely."
Our Sustainable Excellence process is designed to
give organizations the ability to make this choice in an emerging future. Read
